The City of Fort Lauderdale hosted a meeting  on June 12th and approximately 150+ homeowners expressed their opposition about Proposed Canal Dredging Assessment Tax. The City is considering a perpetual, annual assessment tax for properties along the City-owned canals to fund dredging costs. The annual assessment tax would be approximately $340 for a home on 85 feet of waterfrontage.

The consensus of the neighbors who heard the presentation at the City Presentation meeting was:

Dredge the canals on an “As needed” Basis

Funds should be taken from the City General Fund not a perpetual annual assessment tax

Do not postpone the vote on this tax -reject it now.

Please watch the video at  http://fortlauderdale.legistar.com  City Commission Conference meeting on April 19th and listen to the positive reactions to this tax proposal by your Commissioners  (fast forward to 2:20) for the  Preliminary Canal Dredging Rate Study Presentation.

Please call or email your Commissioner today and voice your opposition to the proposed new tax.
